The MemoryKick Si offers one solution to the underlying issue of secure digital photo storage on holiday or for professional photographers in the field.

In the studio or at home serious photographers have their storage and backup workflow options covered. However, on the road or on location, the option for backup and digital photo organization has been limited to laptop computer based solutions.

There are increasing demands on digital storage from the large digital image files created by the latest high resolution DSLRs and medium format digital cameras. To fill this need emerging technology offers physically smaller memory devices offering larger storage capacity.

“The MemoryKick Si is a major advance in portable media centers. It provides the best functions of a Photo Bank (Epson, Hyperdrive, etc.), at a considerably lower price per megabyte. It features a large high-quality viewing screen with auto-orientation, zooming, and intuitive navigation,” said Anthony Cole Link, CEO of NionCom, the makers of MemoryKick.

“On top of that, the MemoryKick Si also boasts the best capabilities of an MP3 player,Memory Card Reader, Video Player, and even a Laptop by enabling you to create folders, copy, paste, and move images and rename them, all in one pocket-size, lightweight device.”

The Memorykick Si offers pocket size portable storage with more than enough capacity for extended shooting of RAW format images with up to a 500Gb version available.

Image Management

The MemoryKick Si is more than a storage device as it comes with management facilities for photographers to manage their digital photos.

The MemoryKick Si reads a variety of memory cards from still and video cameras with connection capacity for three memory cards and one USB port at the same time.

The Memory Kick Si offers facilities for copying files to, from, and between itself and the external devices. Additionally photographers can rename files and create folders for meaningful categories for their digital photos. To help this process the Memorykick Si reads and displays images in RAW formats and in more universal image formats. As well a s zooming in for closer examination of the image. ‘The memory kick si even displays the EXIF information and exposure histogram as an aid to reviewing images.

Image Storage Issues

Even though memory cards are reliable devices there is always the possibility of data corruption, simply losing or damaging the card and losing all the images it contains. This is a serious loss if they are photographs of a special trip or location photo shoot. This is where devices such as the MemoryKick si are invaluable in providing portable photo storage for copies of all the shots.

Despite the aura of permanency of negatives, film is vulnerable to loss in transit or mistakes in processing. For example Robert Capa’s pictures of the D Day landing in World War II were mostly lost while the film was being hastily processed in London and the negatives ruined.(1)

In the digital age devices like the MemoryKick si are useful for photographers for backing up those important shots in the field and they give an added level of security to photographers away from home.

MP3 Music Machine

Photographers on location often face a long wait for events or for the light to be just right. The MemoryKick Si is also an MPS3 player so photographers can listen to music or podcasts to relieve boredom without having to carry a separate device. The large storage capacity offers plenty of scope for large music collections,

Video and External Screens

The MemoryKick Si has video connections so files can be viewed on large screen televisions or monitors. With the emergence of HD video in DSLRs the ability of the MemoryKick Si to store and replay these files becomes more relevant.
